hello cat lovers :)
5 Attachment(s)
i am a 24 year old female who is a newer cat owner but have always loved cats. my parents are more of dog people so i was never able to have a cat only dogs. recently my boyfriend heard me talking to a friend about how i would love to get an all black kitten with yellow eyes and 2 weeks after that convo with my friend my boyfriend asked me to go for a ride with him he took me to this ladys house and said that she had kittens she was giving away and one of them was an all black cat with yellow eyes and that he lined the kitten up for me to take home thats how i met my new kitty who i named Onyx

Onyx like i said is an all black cat with yellow eyes he is the most well behaved kitten i have ever seen and follows me around the house even into the bathroom! he is very fond of sitting in the bathtub if i turn on the water in the tub lightly he paws at it, its really cute! i got him when he was around 10 weeks old the lady i got him from said she had no idea how old he was but he was around 10 weeks. he is now about 4 months old and my new best friend. i sometimes think my boyfriend gets jelous of him lol here are a few pics i have of him!

Omg, he's beautiful :) My kittens love going in the bathtub too, but when I turn on water (not even in the tub, but the sink), they tense up and scramble away lol They smell funny too, so I really wanna bath them but they'll scratch me up. You're lucky to have such a smart and easy going cat ;)

Onyx is a beautiful boy! Following you into the bathroom is a Very Important Job for cats, they all do it. :)

I look forward to hearing more about him.

What do you mean they smell funny? Kittens should not have a bad smell. Have they been dewormed? (I can't remember) even if they have, they may need to be again.

What are you feeding them?

MommyOfOnyx 08-12-2010 01:21 PM

Onyx pretty much smells good all the time lol but like most cats he cleans himself a lot even right now when i am haveing issues with his stools being pretty runny due to food change he doesent smell bad his litter box on the other hand lol.....but yeah i dont think cats should smell funny. check thier litterbox for white things i know sounds gross but if you find any there is a good chance they have worms

Val_Kitten 08-14-2010 12:28 PM

Yeah ever since I got them they kinda smelled like peanuts or something, but a couple of days ago, I submerged them in water, wiped them with a bath wipe and let them lick themselves dry. They smell better. I'm still gonna get them dewormed tho ;) Because I work at petsmart, I can get on a plan for banfield for 22 dollars a month. They spay/neuter, give all the shots, pretty much everything needed for 22 a month ;)

MommyOfOnyx 08-14-2010 01:27 PM

very nice :) as soon as onyx gets all better and i switch his food im getting him neutered at the local shelter they will do it for $50 plus give him all his shots

Val_Kitten 08-15-2010 01:01 AM

Sounds like a plan ;)

Hello & welcome!:)
Onyx is so handsome! What a sweet, loving thing for your boyfriend to do, very thoughtful of him. I spent ages persuading my boyfriend (now husband) to allow me to get our first cat Ripley. We've had her 6 years now and he gets way more affection from her than I do. She comes running to greet him as soon as he comes in from work even though I'm the one who feeds her and cleans the litter trays!
We also have Newt who is 3. She is very affectionate and loves to curl up on my lap and sleep while I'm reading or watching tv.
Acerit is right, observing what goes on in the bathroom is a Very Important Job. I have to leave the door ajar if I have a bath. They both like to wander in and out and peep over the bathtub. I suppose it must look very odd to them that I choose to sit in a load of water!
Cats shouldn't smell 'funny', I love the way both mine smell. Often Ripley smells of freshly washed laundry, then I know she's pulled some clean clothes off the dryer and slept on them!

Val_Kitten 08-15-2010 11:42 PM

Yeah I know cats shouldn't smell funny  But mine are still kittens and their mother gave birth to them in her litter box. Then she kept carrying them over to it whenever they went astray. Now my kittens like to play and lay in their litter box. It's soooo disgusting and frustrating and there's really no way to fix it, because if I shoo them away from the litter box, they might think it's off limits and potty on the floor. However, they didn't smell like poop. They smelled like peanuts or something. But like I said above, I put them in water and the smell went away.

MommyOfOnyx 08-16-2010 07:01 PM

wow i think onyx was born in a cardbord box lol but not sure dident ask when i went to pick him up was just happy to see him lol. yes was very sweet of my boyfriend due to some things with his family we had to move apart for awhile and wont be liveing together again for maybe a year or more so he got me the kitten so i wont get lonely

Val_Kitten 08-16-2010 10:36 PM

Aww how sweet! You're still in the same city tho, right?

MommyOfOnyx 08-17-2010 01:28 AM

no we live about 3 hours away from each other right now i see him about 2 times a month

Val_Kitten 08-17-2010 12:57 PM

Oh that's hard. I was in a long distance relationship for a year before we finally got together. But he live across the country from me, so we only met up, for a week or two at a time, 3 times in the year. Good luck tho ;)

MommyOfOnyx 08-17-2010 01:01 PM

we are doing ok, we lived together for over 3 years before things happened with his family and we were forced to move away from each other. but as soon as things settle on his end we are moveing back together

Val_Kitten 08-17-2010 01:16 PM

Well that's good. I hope everything will be ok with his family.

MommyOfOnyx 08-17-2010 01:21 PM

will be fine, just he lost him job a few years back and we lost the house we had so he had to move back in with his elderly mother who disapproves of the age gap between us it happens lol so waiting for him to find a new job or for me to find more than part time work

Val_Kitten 08-17-2010 01:39 PM

Oh what's the age gap? I have a thing for older men and my mom disagreed at first, but now that I'm 21, she's been less uneasy about it.

MommyOfOnyx 08-17-2010 02:07 PM

im 24 he is 46

Val_Kitten 08-17-2010 03:15 PM

I'm more attracted to 30 somethings, but I have dated a 40 year old. I still see him sometimes, but we're not dating anymore. As a poker player, he has no schedule and can play poker all day sometimes, online and in casinos. Oh well.. How's Onyx doing today? :)

MommyOfOnyx 08-17-2010 03:36 PM

my mom and dad were 15 years apart my mom being older i grew up in a younger older family and it just came natural to me to date more mature people. my father loves my boyfriend just my boyfriends mom cant stand me oh well cant make everyone like you lol. onyx is great he is playing with his catnip seal toy right now lol

Val_Kitten 08-17-2010 03:45 PM

Aww don't you just love catnip? My kittens don't instantly love the stuff I buy, but after I rub catnip on it, they're all over it lol

MommyOfOnyx 08-17-2010 04:40 PM

i bought onyx a seal on a string and stick that has a little pouch in its back to put catnip in and i use to dangle it in front of him but soon learned that i dont have to do that to get him to play with it just load it with a little catnip and throw it to him and he jumps all over it lol

Val_Kitten 08-18-2010 12:13 PM

Yeah, I have a mouse pouch that I gave my kitties. Tartuffe doesn't too much care for it, but Fleur went absolutely nuts the first time. She still loves it but she didn't freak out like the first time.

Lee W. 08-18-2010 09:44 PM

Aw, cute! Reminds me of Brat, who is waiting for me in heaven. He considered it his Mission in Life to make sure I'd never be alone, especially in the bathroom. I never went anywhere to get him to bring him home...he just showed up outside looking for me one day, moved in right away.

Val_Kitten 08-18-2010 11:20 PM

Aww that's so nice :) I love taking in strays. Growing up, my dad was the stray-animal-taker-in king and my mom hated it lol He still does it sometimes I guess. He took in a black cat last year. She prefers to be outside, but my sister moved in with him has been making her stay in. We're gonna get her her shots and she's matted, so I'm gonna shave her and hope her coat grows back beautifully. Don't worry, I'm a groomer ;)

MommyOfOnyx 08-18-2010 11:31 PM

awww yeah i would take in strays if i could but my dad and step mom are dog people and kinda got upset that i even got the one lol but onyx usually stays up in my room unless he goes downstairs to drink the dogs water lol

Val_Kitten 08-18-2010 11:36 PM

Ohhh when you said he got you a cat so that you wouldn't get lonely, I was under the impression that you lived alone. But I guess you could still get lonely with your parents. Not the same as friends.

MommyOfOnyx 08-18-2010 11:45 PM

my father is always working and is like never home and when he is he is sleeping, and my step mother and i dont really get along that well, before i moved in with my boyfriend she stole $200 from me and when i caught her she never payed me back i told dad and all he said was it wont happen again but i never got my $200 back so i just dont trust her anymore and i think she knows it

Val_Kitten 08-19-2010 01:44 PM

Omg that's horrible! My dad is the same way. If he's not working, he's sleeping. I was dating this guy and I moved to his hometown. Things didn't work out with the roommates he set up for me, so he begged his mom to let me stay with them. They're catholic and she didn't approve of us living together before marriage. I loved her at first, but as time went on, I couldn't stand living under her roof. I stayed cooped up in the guest room all night until my boyfriend came home from work.

MommyOfOnyx 08-20-2010 08:56 PM

yeah that sucks

Val_Kitten 08-21-2010 01:13 AM

Oh well.. we're broken up now anyway. Still good friends tho.
