Oops I must have missed this thread!
It sounds as if you are doing well. The fact the mother cat has stayed she must trust you to a certain degree. I would carry on as you are doing. Keeping at a reasonable distance so they are not threatend by your presence. Maybe stay a long while talking gently but don't aprouch them. Do this as often as possible, they will be soon get used to you. As the kittens grow older they may become confident and cheeky enough to aprouch you.
As they get older they play more, You may be able to entice them to play with a fishing rod style toy. They can keep a comfortable distance from you whilst enjoying your company. I think patience is the key.
You probably know all of this already.
It would be great if they befriend you. And handy if any need medical treatment. It would be great for them if you can put some kitten safe flea treatment on their scruffs (you can get flea treatment that kills all parasites inc worms) I would not attempt this for a while.
