Default Homemade cat toys

Here are some ideas for making toys for kitties that don't cost your an arm and a leg.

Get some packaging string and tie a button on one end securely so it can't fall off. You can string it through and tie the two ends together so it will definitely stay on. Then hang it by tying it securely to a kitchen cabinet knob and let your cat bat it around.

Instead of spending money on a catnip mouse or ball, simply tie some catnip into a sock or knee high stocking. Trim off the loose ends. You can stitch it to avoid some fraying. With the catnip in it, your cat will love it. You can also put a ball of catnip on the end of the suspended string as above.

Another good catnip toy is a small orange juice can with both ends off. Put catnip in it and cover both ends with pieces of pantyhose toes and duct tape them on. The cat will push it around and play with it.

Of course you would want to use a pair of hose or knee highs that already have runs or holes in some places so as not to spend extra money on the supplies for the homemade toys. The point was to save money and not buy expensive toys.

Wow. Softpaws, those are all great ideas. I am definitely going to try them. I did read humour somewhere that cats are so stuck up they don't like toys that are homemade, they only care if you spend a bunch of money of them. Therefore, this woman bought toys and the cats played but she made them or didn't spend anything and they did. The end of the story was that she saved up catfood can labels and boxtops to get a free cat tree, but the cats wouldn't play in it because the knew it was free!! We'll have to see what they think of these homemade toys.
