Japanese destroyers

May 29, 2004, four Japanese destroyers in tight formation approximately 250 miles northeast of Hawaii. Ships are JDS Haruna DDH-141, JDS Amagiri DD-154, JDS Asakaze DDG-169 and JDS Inazuma DD-105. Video taken from USS Fletcher DD-992.The Japanese ships left Pearl Harbor the previous morning, bound for San Diego. The Fletcher left Pearl Harbor the previous afternoon and caught up with the Japanese on the following day. A helicopter from one of the Japanese vessels was taking video of their own tight formation and the commander of their group was gracious enough to allow Fletcher to approach close enough for this photo opportunity. Fletcher and the Japanese ships were proceeding to the same destination however the Japanese were traveling at a slower speed which is why Fletcher caught up with them the day after leaving Pearl and why Fletcher arrived in San Diego before they did. All the Japanese ships were impressive, maintaining a tight formation like this is not easy and they did a great job. Thanks to the Japanese commander for allowing the USS Fletcher to come alongside.Remarks that are deemed offensive will be deleted.
